Antique iron is prone to weathering and rusting over time. For some, this aging process adds to the character of the piece. However, if you wish to preserve your plaque, we recommend painting or spraying it, or coating it with a protective lacquer.

All our Antique Iron Products are submitted to a five-stage Hand Finishing Process. For authenticity, we do not lacquer any of our products, however all are lovingly waxed by hand in the factory in the Yorkshire Wolds. This is a maintenance wax, and serves as a basic protection to moisture.

Our Antique Iron products may show light surface rust if exposed to damp environments. If necessary, this can be easily removed by using light oil (such as WD40) and a fine grade wire wool. Many of our Iron products will age naturally and develop their own patina over time. Should any products arrive with a residue of wax, a wipe over with a cloth is advised.

    I was so grateful such a beautiful, high-quality option existed for such these signs and the shipping was really fast, considering it was coming from overseas. And these signs look even better in person than they do in pictures! I painted mine with enamel for visibility and am really pleased with result. I purchased three for a 80-foot facade in NYC and they're exactly what I wanted — something that projects the message, but is also discreet, sturdy, and stylish. Strongly recommend and already considering buying more for other entrances on the building.
